piriformis syndrome

Get back to action and reduce pain

This is a largely misunderstood enormous pain in the butt! The piriformis is a deep, tough, muscle located in the buttocks and connects to the top of the hip. Piriformis syndrome is a neuromuscular issue – in that this muscle has a notch through which the sciatic nerve passes. When the piriformis gets inflamed, it rubs against and aggravate the sciatic nerve. Often athletes will complain of sciata pain but it’s really the piriformis that is inflamed causing the pain. Symptoms include pain that radiates across the buttocks and down the back of the leg.

* The number of sessions is based on previous client experiences. There are instances whenever pain may reside within 1 session, and there are instances when relief takes 5 or more sessions. A Prevention+ Plan is always recommended for injury prevention after you receive initial pain relief and resume activity. Results may vary per person. You will find continuous improvement long-term when coupled with at-home exercises.

What experience can you expect when you come in for your Piriformis Syndrome treatments?

Once evaluated with Tension Tracing™, we work to relieve pressure, interstitial swelling, and reduce pain. Our Tension Release Therapy ™ involves releasing the tension in this muscle while avoiding activation and inflammation of the sciatic nerve that is nestled next to the piriformis. We work to relieve the pain and help you resolve this over-active muscle to get you relief quickly. Because it’s a stubborn muscle, treatment can require up to six sessions to avoid potential surgery to cut the muscle.

Is it your first time?

Sometimes though, after a injury or many years of repetitive movements, the body can over-compensate leaving you will tightness and tension in your muscles, tendons, and ligaments that can lead to pain beyond what you feel and open up further possibility of injury.

For all first time clients, we ask that you either choose to do a Full Assessment or give us a try with a 15-mintue complimentary session.
